Guest experiences

What our safari guests say

Experiences shared by guests who have travelled with us to Yala.

Totally worth the 6am alarm

“Barely an hour into the park and a massive male leopard crossed the dirt track right behind our jeep. We just sat there in dead silence watching him. No crowds, just us and the cat. Unbelievable morning. 5/5.”

Yala safari FAQ

Yala safari questions from Tangalle

Planning Yala while staying on the South Coast? Find out how to visit Yala from Tangalle in one day, whether you need to stay near the park, what is included and how to continue your Sri Lanka journey afterwards.

Can I do a Yala safari from Tangalle in one day?

Yes. You can visit Yala National Park as a day trip from Tangalle without moving your holiday base closer to the park. We arrange your pickup, road transfer, safari jeep experience and return or onward drop-off, so you can keep staying on the South Coast and still experience Yala.

Is a Yala safari from Tangalle worth the travel?

For many South Coast travellers, yes. Yala is one of Sri Lanka's best-known wildlife safari destinations and offers a very different experience from the beaches around Tangalle. If wildlife is part of your Sri Lanka plans, a day trip can be a convenient way to experience Yala without changing hotels just for the safari.

Do I need to stay near Yala the night before my safari?

No. Staying near Yala can suit some itineraries, but it is not necessary. We can arrange pickup from Tangalle for your safari, allowing you to experience Yala while keeping your South Coast accommodation. This can save you an extra hotel move and make better use of your travel time.

Can I combine my beach stay in Tangalle with a Yala safari in one day?

Yes. A morning or evening safari can let you experience Yala while still keeping part of the same day for your South Coast stay. A full-day safari is a longer dedicated wildlife experience. Either way, you can enjoy Yala without adding a separate overnight stay near the park.

What is included in a Yala safari from Tangalle?

Our complete Yala safari package includes arranged road transport from Tangalle, a private 4x4 safari jeep for your group, an experienced safari driver, Yala National Park entrance costs and refreshments included with your selected trip. Your exact arrangement is confirmed with you before the safari.

Can I visit Yala from Tangalle and continue to Ella afterwards?

Yes. Your Yala safari can be part of your travel day from the South Coast to Ella. We can pick you up from Tangalle, arrange your safari and continue to Ella afterwards. It is a convenient way to combine Yala with your onward Sri Lanka itinerary instead of returning to the coast first.

Are leopard and elephant sightings guaranteed in Yala?

No wildlife sighting can be guaranteed because Yala is a natural environment and animal movements cannot be predicted. Experienced safari drivers use their knowledge of the park, wildlife behaviour and recent activity to give you the best possible safari experience.
